Hi there, Walker RX.
Let's repair QuickBooks that can resolve program-related issues. Here's how:
- Make sure to create a backup copy of your company file. Follow this guide article on how to do that: Create Backup Of The QuickBooks Desktop Company File.
- Select Start and then Control Panel. (In Windows 8/8.1: From the Start menu, open Search and type Control Panel. From the results, select Control Panel.)
- Select Programs and Features. If necessary, choose Uninstall a program.
Note: If you don't see these options, select Programs, then Program Features. - Select QuickBooks in the list of programs and choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Continue, then, Next.
- Select Repair then Next. Wait for the repair to complete.
- Choose Finish, then restart your computer if prompted.
Once done, re-open QuickBooks and check if the Help function is already working. You can also reply to this thread if you have follow-up questions.

It did not work. A window still pops up that says at the top "Have a Question?" and it's BLANK. I'm on a laptop PC running Windows 8.1. I ran the repair Quickbooks thing already. It didn't change anything.

Hello there, @joaniesan.
I appreciate you performing the solution shared by my colleague to rectify the issue.
QuickBooks uses Internet Explorer to access information from the web. Make sure to set this browser as your default to resolve the blank screen problem.
Here’s how:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click the Gear icon in the upper right corner (or click Tools).
- Choose Internet Options.
- Select the Programs tab.
- Under Default Web Browser, click the Make Default button.
- Hit OK.
Once done, log in to QuickBooks and press F1 on your keyboard to check if it’s working fine now. If you continue to get the same result, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the program.
Follow the steps below to uninstall:
- Click the Start menu and type in Control Panel to open it.
- Choose Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
- Select QuickBooks Desktop and click Uninstall/Change.
- Follow onscreen instructions to finish uninstalling the program.
Right after, download QuickBooks Desktop to start the installation process. Check out the following articles for more information:
- Install or uninstall Desktop in Selective Startup.
- Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.
- Install QuickBooks Desktop.
That should get you on the right track.
Keep me updated on how that goes for you. I’m always here to help. Have a good one!

I ended up reaching tech support who did a Glance session. She went into Internet Explorer and, I believe, added a bunch of intuit websites to the safe sites. I thought she'd de-selected "enable protected mode" but when I opened it just now to check, that was still selected. She did not make IE my default browser. Anyway, so thank you for the response. Some aspect/setting in IE was definitely the problem and it is now fixed. Thanks much!

I'm glad someone resolved their problem with the F1 help option. I tried all the options given, and still can't get anything but a blank page. This to me is symptomatic of a larger problem with QuickBooks. Although it is a great accounting program, it really lacks in readily available information on how to setup and use the program. For software that costs this much, here's where "the juice ain't worth the squeeze".
