Hi efc,

Thank you for submitting your question. :)

To produce a VAT Detail report, go to Reports, All Reports, Manage VAT and select the VAT Detail Report.

You can also view it from the VAT centre. Just go to VAT, Prepare Return, hover over the amounts, and click on View Transactions.

Hope that helps!

Can you advise why is this VAT report only included the ones with 20% but what about zero rated 0% ? Shouldn't it suppose to show on the report for the vat return box 7 too ?

The VAT100 Report will show the correct VAT entries for all expenses (provided that you assign the correct VAT codes when entering the purchase bill or expense payment).

Hello kipchaui,

If you scroll down on the reports tab, there will be a section named 'Manage VAT' which will provide various VAT reports.

Thanks,

Why doesn't the VAT Detail report show any detail of the description in the description column? It's a pretty useless detail report without those essential details.

Hello,

The VAT detail report is there to see the detail behind the overall box figures calculated. The description column shows anything entered into the Memo box. Please use the feedback option under the cog wheel if you would like to suggest this improvement to the VAT detail report to the developers - they will look into implementing this in future updates if possible.

Thanks,

Talia

Yes but the detail is in the description, without the detail description how can it be a VAT detail Report?   Yes I've submitted feedback, but this is pretty disappointing that I have to copy all the descriptions to a memo field just to get them to show up. May as well use a spreadsheet.

I hear you, and I can see the importance of the VAT description when downloading the VAT Detail Report in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @cherop1.

We take your suggestions for the VAT Detail Report to display the VAT info under the Memo/Description column as an opportunity on which area of the product's reporting feature we need to improve on. With this, I encourage you to send feedback or product recommendation.

Your valuable feedback will be forwarded and reviewed by our Product Development team to help improve your experience while using the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

I've attached screenshots below that show the first four steps.

Additionally, the VAT Detail Report lists transactions that are included in each box on the VAT return. You can customise it to focus  on the details that matter the most to you. Then, export it to save a copy for future use.

Also, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Online Blog site to be updated with our latest product news and enhancements.

I'm all ears if you have other reporting feature concerns. Just reply here or create a new thread. I'll be right there with you. Take care always.

Hi Sussane, the interface has been updated since this post - the VAT detail report can now be found by navigating to Taxes from the left-hand menu > VAT > select the drop-down beside report > view VAT details.
