Hello there, lydja19.

There are a few possible reasons why you get an error PS036. Here are some of the scenarios:

  • The payroll subscription is inactive.
  • QuickBooks Desktop file is damaged
  • Direct Deposit agreement is active with more than one payroll subscription.

To resolve this error, we can turn off the UAC. Then, make sure to turn it back on once the troubleshooting is done.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R on your keyboard.
  2. Type Control Panel and select OK.
  3. Choose User Accounts and select User Accounts (Classic View).
  4. Select Change user account control settings. (Note: If you are prompted by UAC, select Yes to continue).
  5. Move the slider and set it to Never Notify and click OK to turn UAC OFF
  6. Restart your computer and open QuickBooks again.

Then, try to download the latest payroll tax table. You can also check this article for other solutions: PSXXX Errors.

If you need anything else, please leave a comment. Thanks.
