When I export . From QuickBooks online it tells me the report is too long and I don't want to download in bits and then stitch them manually..it's tedious

When you try to run a massive two-year General Ledger (GL) all at once, the web interface often times out or triggers a "too long to display" error because it cannot render that volume of data on-screen simultaneously. To bypass this error without having to stitch files together manually line by line, you can use the Export Data tool to download your reports safely into Excel. However, please know that QuickBooks Online (QBO) generates reports in formats like Excel (XLSX), PDF, or CSV rather than a native user-downloadable XML file.

Here’s how to export the GL data directly:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Export data.
  2. Select only the GL report you want to export.
  3. Customise the date range.
  4. Click Export.
  5. Follow the subsequent prompts.

As for your concern about wanting the file to be in XML format, consider reaching out to IT for ways to convert the XLSX file type to XML.
