Yes, depending on how you received the payment, you can issue an ACH refund by creating a Refund receipt to match the outgoing funds with your bank feed.

  1. Navigate to + Create.
  2. Select Refund receipt.
  3. From the Customer dropdown menu, select the customer to refund.
  4. Enter the details using the same information from the original sale.
  5. Select the payment method and account for customer refunds.
  6. Select Save and close.

If you are using QuickBooks Payments, whether you can reverse the transaction depends on timing. If the daily batch has not closed:

  1. Open the transaction under Sales.
  2. Click the dropdown button under the Actions column.
  3. Select Void.

If the funds have already settled, you must wait at least 5 business days before processing an electronic eCheck refund through your Merchant Service Center. Remember that the refund must return to the original account and cannot be redirected.

For direct debits processed with a credit card, you will need to handle and record refunds manually in QuickBooks.
