Question

How can I remove the sales tax line item field from appearing on my invoices when my business does not require to collect taxes . Sales tax was on at one time.

Last year I accidently turned the auto sales tax on which caused the tax line item to appear on invoices. I turned off the sales tax that same day but the tax line field on my invoices did not go away.  I contacted QB about a year ago and they couldn't fix. I am just wondering if anything has been updated since a year ago to fix this?

Hello there, Izbeachbum. Thank you for reaching out. I'm here to help you turn off the sales tax feature in your invoices.

Since you have mentioned that you accidentally clicked the automated sales tax on a year ago and wanted an update if we already have the option to disable this, I'll be guiding you in turning this off. Here's how:

  1. On the left navigation panel, Click Taxes.
  2. Choose Sales Tax.
  3. Click Sales Tax Settings.
  4. Select Turn off sales tax.

Once you successfully turned off this feature, you can try creating an invoice and check if the sales tax feature is already off. However, if you've collected sales tax on one or more items, you won't be able to turn this off.

I can also share you an article so that you can record, adjust, and delete tax payments in the tax center. This will help you manage your sales tax payments properly: Manage sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online (intuit.com)
