Question

How can I run a report of customer data without having to select every project?

I have many reports that I need to run regarding customers; however, when I select customers, it says no data to show. It is like I have to click every project under that customer to show data. I cannot do this every time. We have hoards of projects.

How do I run a report for customers without having to select every project?

I see you're experiencing difficulties as the reports showing no data unless you manually select every project under each customer, @lmoCDS.

With a large number of projects, this process becomes time-consuming and impractical. Allow me to share insights and help you resolve this matter.

We can generate a Transaction Detail report to show customer data without having to select every project individually. Let me show you how:

  1. In your QBO account, select the Reports menu.
  2. In the search field, type and choose Transaction Detail by Account report.
  3. Select the correct date.
  4. Under Rows/Columns, let's choose Customer in the Group by section.
  5. Once done, click Run report

Upon completion, we can tailor the reports to your needs by customizing, applying filters, or formatting the layout to ensure that the relevant data is accurately displayed in the desired locations.

If you need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to to me, @lmoCDS. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards resolving this matter for you.

Okay...well, that report can be run for just about anything I feel like I run it everyday.

The problem is that I would like to run some the reports that have been created already on your reports page like profit and loss, etc...you can't do that just running a transaction detail report. Of course I have already done that and run about 12 pivot tables. Still not going to give me the report I am looking for.

Your projects are treated like customers. And nothing rolls up to the higher level.

Hi there @ImoCDS. Allow me to provide information on generating reports for transactions you created in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you are already in your specific account, you can customize the date period of your report by changing your report period into Custom and changing its date period to a certain date.

Make sure that you deposited the amount for your invoice or sales in your bank to avoid accounts receivable or undeposited funds.

Regarding the projects you want to generate, the feature you want is unavailable on QBO. However, I encourage you to send your suggestions directly to our Product Development Team. They will carefully consider this option to ensure it meets your business needs effectively.

To send a feature recommendation, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Indicate your comments or suggestions.
  3. Then select Next to submit feedback.

You can trace requests for features through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

I'll be leaving this guide if you want to learn how to run and print your reports in QBO: Run the report in QuickBooks Online

If you have further inquiries regarding your reports, leave a comment below. I’ll jump back right in to assist you.
