I am trying to do paychecks but quickbooks is not deducting taxes

There are several reasons why payroll taxes aren't calculating, lupe1.

 

Let's make sure first that your QuickBooks is in the latest version as well as your tax table. It's also best to review the way you set up the taxes. The set up affects how QuickBooks Desktop calculates it. Refer to this article about payroll items on paycheck are not calculating or are calculating incorrectly.

 

In addition, make sure that the employee isn't set to do not withhold. You can follow these steps in checking it:

  1. Go to Employees tab and select Employee Center.
  2. Double-click on the employee's name. From the Payroll Info tab, click on Taxes.
  3. Review the filing status for both Federal and State taxes.
