I can help you with that, kathrynjpuckett.

Currently, the option to completely delete an account is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. We can only deactivate it so that it will no longer show in your Chart of Accounts.

Additionally, if we deactivate an account that has a balance, the program will automatically create a journal entry to move the remaining balance to another account. This way, it won't disappear from your books.

When you're ready, you can follow these simple steps to make an account inactive:

  1. Select Accounting from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action column, then select Make inactive.

I also encourage reading this article to find out which default or special account can be deleted, edited, or merged in QuickBooks Online.

If I can be of any additional help, please don't hesitate to let me know in the comment section. As always, assistance is just a post way.
