Is there a way to allow our customers to add a gratuity when they pay a catering invoice? The gratuity would be pooled and distributed to employees.

It's a pleasure to see here in the Community. I can share some information about allowing customers to add gratuity or tip in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, QBO doesn't have the option to let a customer add a gratuity/tip when paying an invoice. However, you can use the Tip tracking feature that is available in sales receipts or add a separate service item for tips on the invoice as a workaround.

To turn on the feature, here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon at the top and pick Account and Settings under Your Company column.
2. Select the Sales tab at the left, then click the Pencil (edit) icon on the Sales From Content section.

3. Check the Tips (Gratuity) box, then choose My Team if you use tips to pay your employees or others. This will create a liabilities account for tips.
4. Confirm the template switch, then hit Okay and Save.

Once done, you can add a tip on the button of the sales receipt transaction. Check out this article for further guidance: Add tips to sales receipts.

On the other hand, here's how to add a separate service item for tips on the invoice:

1. Go to the Plus icon at the top, then pick Invoice under Customers column.
2. Select the customer and enter the necessary information.
3. Under Product/Service, click +Add new, then choose Service.

4. Name the service as Tip, the select Undistributed Tips under the Income account, then Save and close.

5. Once done, select Tip and enter the Amount.
6. Hit Save and send.

this addresses the "how to handle a tip" issue, but does nothing to prompt patrons to ACTUALLY TIP. QBO needs to build this feature into their invoice template ASAP!

Our Product Engineers are always looking for ways to improve the app. I can see how the ability to add tip on invoices would be helpful for both you and your business. I’d be glad to forward these suggestions to our Product Engineers for consideration in future updates.

In the meantime, you can visit our QuickBooks Online App center and check out any supported third-party application that offers embedded Tip feature on the invoice.

To visit QuickBooks Online’s app center, here’s how:

Login to your QuickBooks Online account.
Go to Apps from the menu tab.
Type in the clue word of the specific app you're looking for.
Click the magnifying glass to search.

I would like (NEED!) this feature as well! Yes, I know customers can choose to increase the payment amount manually, but it's awkward and does not "prompt" them to tip. Prior to using QBO i used Square for my invoicing, which has this feature built in, and received a lot of tips that way. Now, since switching to QBO that income in virtually gone. ITS A MUST ADD FEATURE in my opinion!

Absolutely agree that this is a critical feature to be added. Ditto to everyone's mention of Square (I also just moved over from Square) and adding the option to tip when paying the invoice was very helpful.

Please prioritize adding this feature!

I would need this feature as well. I have been tracking updates for a tip feature for QB invoices. It has been well over a year. I currently use Square for a lot of my sales but prefer to use Quickbooks because of the syncing feature. Is there a timeline in place for this tipping feature to be added and will we get an update when changes are made? The workaround you suggest is not feasible for my business as asking for tips upfront is not good customer service, in my opinion.

Hi, I am very disappointed the QB hasnt done anything about this very obvious issue. You are a huge business with plenty of resources for development and this has been an issue from the time you started I am sure. Please make it possible to receive tips or I will have to use another service.

My staff are missing out on what is normally a huge part of their income without this feature.

With so many businesses in hospitality forced to move online we need this as an option.

Please expedite a gratuity feature on invoicing.

If anyone looking for this feature has found software that works please pass it on. I have been looking to get away from quickbooks for some time now. Their customer service is horrible and as you all can see they aren't all that concerned with changing things for their customer. I havent been happy with this service for a while but I have yet to find anything else. We need a team of people to make a new app for the masses. Something that doesn't charge for actual help would be nice. I pay a monthly fee for a piece of software that then requires an accountant to make it run.....getting to the point I would rather just pay an accountant then spend the monthly fee on this any more

Any updates to this feature? It's really crucial to my catering business. I'm having customer request this option. They would like to add a tip to their total, so they can pay it all on a credit card.

I can see the benefit of being able to add the tip feature on your invoices for your catering business, @carsonscatering. That's why I'm here to share updates of this feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Our product engineers are constantly looking for ways to enhance the QBO system and provide convenience to its users. Currently, the tip feature isn't still available. Then, we don't have an estimated time frame as to when it'll be implemented. You may integrate a supported third-party application that offers the tip feature to your invoices. Just visit the QuickBooks Apps page to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Good Morning!

I have not been able to find an APP that successfully allows customers to include a tip when paying an invoice. I have to also reiterate as a catering business that this is an essential part of our set up. We just moved to QB and can't believe tips are not able to be included with payment. We have already lost hundreds over the past few months.

Any suggestions???
