Good day, @bci-accounting.

You can turn on your Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online. It will track and record your state tax laws to accurately calculate sales tax and returns.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Taxes, then select Sales Tax.
  2. Click the Make the switch button.
  3. Check if the address for your business is correct. If it's correct, select Looks good. If it’s not, tap the pencil icon ✎ to update the address.
  4. QuickBooks identifies the official tax agency in your state. Match the official tax agency with the existing agency you set up.
  5. Choose your filing frequency.
  6. If you pay other tax agencies, select Add Another Tax Agency.
  7. When you’re done, select Next.
  8. Select Go to taxes to see your new sales tax center.

Once done, you can run the Sales Tax liability report in which it will show the states of those invoices, here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports tab in the left panel.
  2. Enter the Sales Tax Liability Report in the search bar.
  3. Click Customize
  4. Under the Report period, click the dates drop-down list at the top of the report and choose a different date range.
  5. Click Customize.
  6. Select Run report

To learn more about how QuickBooks automatically calculates the total tax rate, you can refer to this article for the detailed information: Set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online. It also contains instructions on how you can file your sales tax return with QBO.

Also, for additional information about run reports in QuickBooks see this link. It provides steps on how to print, email, and export reports. Also, it offers report features that you'll need in the future.

Keep on posting if you have more questions. I'm looking forward to assisting you again. Take good care and stay healthy.
