Question

My expenses are still in the negative even though I’ve had invoices posted to my account so I should be in a positive but I’m not

I'm here to help ensure you're expenses will show a positive balance in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), kpettysr.

You'll want to download transactions from your bank and compare them with the ones recorded in QBSE. Doing this will help ensure you have accurate entries in the system.

Then, you can check the category of each transaction. If there are missing transactions, you can manually add them. And, make sure they're organized under the correct expense category

Also, you'll want to verify the negative value appearing on your Profit and Loss report. Transactions may be either crediting an expense entry or debiting if for a negative value.

Here's how you can verify this:

  1. In QuickBooks Online, navigate to the Reports tab. In the Business Overview section, click on the Profit and Loss report.
  2. On the line with the negative or strange value, click the number to open a Transaction Report detailing the items feeding that amount.
  3. From this report, you can open and review any transaction by clicking on it.

Doing this will help drill into any report information and see what's feeding the amounts listed there.
