Question

We use bill.com and the bills that sync over put the expense under category details and not item details on the bill. How do I get it to sync to item details?

Hi there, @geoff12.

I have some insights to share regarding the posting of your bill transactions created from the bill.com into QuickBooks Online.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we use the Category details section when entering an expense transaction. This way, you can select an account from the company chart of accounts to categorize expense type (or non-expense type).

On the other hand the Item details section is used when you are adding inventory items to the entry. It refers to the items from products and services list like the purchases by quantity and unit price.

Here's an article you can check for further information about the two main section of the bill and other transactions: What is the difference between Account Details and Item Details sections available in vendors' transaction.

To get this issue sorted out, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. This way, they'll be able to check the preferences of the application towards the posting of your entries and determine why are they are showing under the Category details. Please know that QBO is dependent on the transactions that were sent from the Bill.com.

If you have other questions or need further assistance, let me know. I'll be more than happy to help. Have a great day!

Thank you for the response and I think that all makes sense.  We definitely have the products and services set up in both QBO and Bill.com, so it must be a bill.com thing - however I can't seem to find anything on their end that points to why it syncs under Category Detail.  I'm not sure it would matter except that we also use a PM software for builders called CoConstruct, and the only way to push actuals into the project's budget is by classifying the expense as an item.  It would all work beautifully if I could get it corrected.  I greatly appreciate your help!
