Let me share with you how invoices numbering works in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @donnlennwilson.

QBO lets you customize the number on your invoices. Once you’ve customized it, it’ll reset the numbering sequence. Since you’ve changed the number sequence back to 3000, it automatically assigns numbers to your sales form starting with 3001.

Since you’ve set up your custom invoice numbering, I recommend turning off the Custom transaction numbers feature in your QBO account. This way, it’ll prevent accidental changes to your numbering. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Click the Sales tab
  4. Select the Sales form content section and turn off the Custom transaction numbers feature by toggling the Radio button.
  5. Then click Save and then Done.

To learn more about invoicing numbers in QBO, check this article out: How to change the invoice number on sales forms.

Additionally, you might also want to read this article for future reference: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online. Here, you’ll learn how to personalize the appearance of your sales form.
