Question

When you pay a 1099 contractor or vendor via ACH through Quickbooks Online, QBO spams the contractor regularly to create an account.

We've discovered that Quickbooks Online regularly spams 1099 contractors we have paid via ACH through Quickbooks. The emails indicate that they need to complete their profile by adding tax ID and other information - even though I have already input all needed information into their contractor profile. Worse yet, the contractor cannot unsubscribe from these emails because they say the emails fall under "critical updates." QBO: Quit trying this sketchy way to create more accounts and market your service! We pay a monthly fee for the service and constantly spamming our 1099 contractors to create an account is ridiculous. We never gave QBO permission to market to our 1099 contractors.

First and foremost, I'd like to commend you for the efforts that you've exerted into this.  For your situation, I recommend contacting our support team. This way, a representative can check and determine if those emails are from QuickBooks. To begin, here are the steps:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Select either tab to get started:
  • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggestions option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide  you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online Knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us nd choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert.
  • Get a calback from the next available expert.
  • As the Community to get help from business like yours.

These emails are 100% from Quickbooks NOT phishing.

Please know that even if you've already filled up the W9 form for your contractors, they'll also need to fill it up on their end. There's also no need for you to sign up for a direct deposit. Let's make sure that you and your contractors have filled up the W9 form. Rest assured that there won't be any additional cost after this.
