Keeping your customers happy and satisfied is the key to a successful venture. This is especially true for smaller firms, as it is very little or sometimes no marketing budget available.

It is primarily through word-of-mouth marketing that people get to know about your services. Thus, knowing your customer and understanding their needs will help your business grow and thrive. Here are some ways that will help you get to know your customers better.

1. Be available:

The minute an existing or a new customer walks in, make sure you or your staff is available for them. If a new customer walks in, it is crucial to establish a rapport immediately with basic courtesy. Greet them with a smile and attend to their needs immediately. First impressions always matter, make the most out of it.

2. Get personal:

Introduce yourself to the customer and employ a friendly demeanor with them. Address them using their name instead of sir or madam, this way you will be able to build a relationship from the very first meeting.

3. Respect their time:

In today’s hectic, fast-paced world, people can buy anything with a click of a button. However, when a customer has taken time to visit you, it is important that you respect their time and help them with their needs in the least amount of time as possible.

Even when a customer calls you on the phone, make sure you address the problem immediately. If you don’t have an answer, call the customer back and answer their query at the earliest.

4. Take feedback:

Every time a new customer walks in and makes a purchase, ask them to fill up a form with their feedback. Make sure you include a column for contact details, this way you will be able to collate a database of your customers and keep them informed about your new endeavors.

5. Keep in touch:

Customer management and customer service are as important as keeping your business up-to-date. Once you build a customer database, keep your customers informed about your business, send wishes on festivals, greet them on their birthdays and anniversaries.

This way you will be able to build a strong relationship as well as know your customers personally. These tried-and-tested ways will help you improve relations with your customers. Acquiring knowledge about good customer service and knowing your customers will not only help you retain your existing clients but also bring potential customers to your doorstep.
