The migration to new Good and Services Tax (GST) regime is the biggest tax overhaul in the history of the Indian tax system. GST enrollment for service tax assessees has begun on 9th January, 2017, and needs to be completed by January 31, 2017. Many taxpayers registered under VAT have started migrating. More than 10 lakh citizens registered under service tax laws need to be enrolled by the deadline. Additionally, businesses registered under service tax laws need to compulsorily register for GST, if their turnover is Rs. 20 lakh and above annually.
Here’s how you can register for GST:
- Visit https://www.gst.gov.in/ and fill in the relevant details applicable for your business
- Generate Login ID and Password to complete your registration
- If you are a service tax assessee, you can generate a provisional ID and password by using service tax account on https://www.aces.gov.in/
- If your business is registered under the service tax department, you would receive an SMS from the government on how to generate your provisional ID and password
If you cannot generate your provisional ID and password, please check if you have filed your half yearly service tax returns.
In case you have filed the service tax return and are still not able to get the provisional ID and password, you may visit the concerned department to resolve your issue.
