How To Create A Facebook Business Page?

10 min read

In order to make your brand visible and build customer connections, you need to create a  facebook business page. Around 2 billion people use facebook to connect with people across the world. Therefore, to take leverage of such a huge audience, you need to have a facebook business page. Having a business page on facebook will help your brand interact with such a massive audience and hence develop your brand. Such networking will help your brand grow its audience over a period of time.

According to a study conducted by facebook, close to two in three people visit facebook page of a local business or an event at least once a week. Also, more than 1.6 billion people are connected to a small business on Facebook. Thus, such a huge audience connecting with local stores makes such stores an important part of the online community.

Thus, we can see that small businesses and its audience are able to maintain connections and link with their surrounding neighbourhood. This is all because of the ever increasing community. Such networking has extended the reach of a local store way beyond the local neighbourhood. Furthermore, the increasing expectation of people to connect with online businesses via mobile devices has helped in extending this community.

As per the survey conducted by Facebook,

66% of the people surveyed use their smartphones to search for new local businesses and events when they happen to hit a new area. And, 1.3x people who use mobile as their primary device use Facebook reasonably more to search for local stores or events in their neighbourhood.

Therefore, we can conclude that small businesses not having a Facebook Business Page are already losing business opportunity to competitors. So, let’s try to understand how to create Facebook Business page in simple steps.

How To Set Up a Facebook Business Page?

There are a host of steps that you need to follow in order to create your business page.

1. Get Started

To create a facebook business page, you first need to have a personal profile on facebook. In case, you do not have one, then you need to create the same in order to have a business page of your own on Facebook. This is because people with personal profiles on facebook only can create or have a role to play on business pages.

Once your personal profile is set, the next step is to click on the “Create” tab towards the top right of your personal profile. Then, from the dropdown select “Page”. On selecting this option, you would see “Create A Page” screen. This screen showcases the options to choose between page categories. In case you are a small business owner,  choose the page category “Business or Brand”. This will help you in highlighting your products and services and make your brand visible.

However, if you are a public figure or a community, you need to choose the page category as “Community or Public Figure”. Once clear with the Page Category, go ahead with creating a Facebook Business Page by clicking “Get Started”.

2. Choose a Page Name and Category

On getting started, Facebook serves you with a screen asking you information about your business or brand. This could include:

  • Page Name

This section would include the name of your brand or business. In this article, we would take “Tigri Cafe” as our illustration.

  • Category

Type a word or two in the given section. Then, choose a category that best describes your business from the list of suggestions provided by Facebook. For instance, on typing the word “Cafe”, facebook serves you with a list of options such as Cafe, Cafeteria, Internet Cafe, Pet Cafe etc. Choose the category that best describes your business.

  • Address

This section might not be included in all the categories. Categories such as Cafe, Restaurant that are location specific require you to give the address and zip code of your business place. You also have the option of not showing the address towards the end of the page. Simply check “Don’t Show my Address” check box in case you do not want your address to be displayed.

  • Phone Number

This is not a mandatory field. Hence, if you believe that it’s necessary to share your contact details considering the nature of your business, then you must mention your contact details clearly.

3. Add a Profile Picture

Once you have filled in the fields requiring your business information, click “continue” to move on to the next step. Now, facebook displays a screen as shown below, asking you to undertake following steps:

  • Upload a Profile Picture

Choose a picture that best describes your business. Usually, businesses display their company or brand logo as the profile photo for their business page. While uploading the profile picture, ensure that your profile picture has requisite dimensions.

As per the 2019 update, for a Facebook Page, the profile picture must be of 180 x 180 pixels. This is because the profile picture is displayed at 170 x 170 pixels on desktops, 128 x 128 pixels on smartphones and 36 x 36 pixels on majority of the featured phones. In case you choose to upload a profile picture less than the dimensions mentioned above, Facebook will stretch the image making it blur.

  • Add A Cover Photo

Businesses generally use image of their shop or outlet, products or a current marketing campaign as the cover photo. Ensure that you optimize the cover photo for your business page. A per the standard, your cover photo must of 820 x 340 pixels. This is because the cover photo gets displayed at 820 pixels wide by 312 pixels tall on desktops and 640 pixels wide by 360 pixels tall on smartphones.

A call-to-action button is nothing but a button that directs your page visitors to take some action. Such actions may include visiting your website, calling your store etc. This button is placed right below the cover photo towards the right by the name “Add a Button”.

Now in order to add a call-to-action button, click on the tab “Add a Button”. Facebook displays a screen that asks you to complete two steps:

Facebook gives you a variety of options for Page Buttons. These include “Book With You”, “Contact You”, Learn More About Your Business”, “Shop With You”, “Download Your App”, or “Play Your Game”. Further, each of the options have sub-categories to choose from according to the need of your business. 2. Give Details That Direct Your Customers To Take Requisite Action

Provide information such as link to your website, phone number etc. to help visitors take action you want them to take. For instance, “Tigri Cafe” had displayed its contact number for customers to place the order or make inquiries.

Once the information needed for your page button is configured, click finish to move forward.
