Established by Shesh Paplikar and Ravindra M.K, BHIVE Coworking space in Bangalore, is a startup ecosystem that provides affordable office spaces to businesses. BHIVE offers entrepreneurs, startups, freelancers a range of facilities that enable individuals and businesses to co-work, connect, collaborate, communicate and commercialize their ideas. We chat with founder Shesh Paplikar about the venture. An excerpt from the interview:
What made you start your venture, BHIVE?
After returning from USA, I was looking for quality co-working spaces that provided excellent customer experience to begin my own start-up in Tech. However, the lack of such co-working spaces gave me the opportunity to start a co-working space. My requirement and need turned into a business.
What has been the key to BHIVE’s success?
Good all-round team – From the founders to investors, mentors, employees.
Focus – One must become a fulltime entrepreneur to show his dedication and desire to succeed. This goes a long way to prove to your investors, co-founders and employees on how driven you are to succeed.
Timing – You need to launch the right product at the right time to the right market. A product shouldn’t be too advanced or too outdated when launching. Timing is everything when you want to succeed.
What are the major challenges in your line of business?
The three main challenges we faced were Team Building, Operations and dealing with unprofessional vendors of India.
Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business?
Yes we do. V. Sridhar, Rajesh Rai, Raghunandan G and Sanjay Mirchandani have all been mentors.
Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations?
Yes, WiFi Technology and Internet management are been pivotal in making our business successful.
What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?
We listen and implement strategies to alleviate customer pain points. When you listen to your customers’ needs, you can deliver the best customer experience.
What, according to you, are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Ability to sell and convince: It is essential to sell ideas, the business, the product, concepts and the driving thought. This is not just to customers but, to your investors, team, co-founders.
People Management: The ability to manage talent and skill properly. You need to get those people on board who have expertise you lack and strike harmony with them. Align their vision with yours and address their grievances first.
Communication: Communication is key. You will be required to have clarity, conciseness and precision in your words.
