Nikita Bansal is a Lifestyle Accessory Design Graduate from National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFT), Bangalore. After working for Fab India as a designer and buyer for two years, Nikita got a lot of clarity and insight in terms of market trend and demand. This, in turn gave her the necessary confidence to ‘start-up’!

A long-time dream, Nikita finally took the leap in 2011 and started ‘Design Matters’. Her venture now supplies lifestyle products to stores across India and the world; offers design packages in lighting, giftware and small accent furniture across materials such as wood, metal, stone, glass, natural fibres, ceramics and fabric. Believing that only hard-work, honesty and talent can make a success-story, Nikita has big plans for Design Matters for the days ahead. We wish her luck!!! Design Matters

What has been the key to your business’s success? Our motto, “Contemporary in form but traditional in spirit” – This is also the USP of Design Matters!   What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them? Once the designs are out they get easily copied – this is one of the big challenges that we face today and there is not much that one can do to in this regard. The copy right laws are not too stringent.   Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business? My husband and my family have been my support system throughout. They advice me and guide me through thick and thin and stand beside me like my pillar of strength. I could not have done anything without their constant support.   Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations? Designing software like Corel, Adobe and 3D max are such a boon. They make work so much faster, easier and presentable.   What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion? Be honest with your work. You can never cheat in terms of quality, prices and time lines. It will not lead you anywhere in the long run. Be truthful to your work and give it your best shot the customer will definitely be satisfied.   What, according to you, are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? Hardworking, Honesty and Talent
