Vidhi Pansari is a go-getter! She always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur-either opening a boutique shop or starting an online store. Happiness Boxed is an online gift store, she opened in February 2015. The store partners with bakers and gift makers across Mumbai and gives them a platform to communicate with and sell to customers. We chat with Vidhi about the venture. An Excerpt from the Interview:

What made you start your venture? 

After interning at a few places, I knew I was not made for the 9 to 5 life.  I noticed that my city was booming with home baker who had trouble interacting with customers. As a customer myself, I found myself in many situations where I couldn’t get the answers I needed. So I decided to build a platform to market these products and act as a go-between between bakers and customers.

What has been the key to your business’s success?

I still have to see success. We’ve just been open for six months.

What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them?

Happiness Boxed markets products and brands. When a customer sees a product on our website or social media page, they can end up buying from the brand itself. Here is the main challenge. We make hamper which includes 2 or multiple brands.

Plus we offer deliveries as well as midnight deliveries with COD service in Mumbai only. Heavy discounts are given to existing customers. Some hampers are created catering to customer’s requirements and budget.

Do you have a mentor who guides/advice you on matters of the business? My dad has always been my mentor and he will continue to be one. My elder sister who is a Chartered Accountant is always there by my side to see whether the money is going in the right direction. They always help me wherever I get stuck and help me make decisions.

Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations? The rapid growth of technology has brought a tremendous change in the industry.

Some days, I am on my phone 24*7, I don’t even need a laptop! From co-ordination to designing photos to posting on social media, keeping a track of Google Analytics as well as editing my Google docs/sheets is done on a simple iphone5. It gives me an access to my mailbox allows me to do instant replies and so on!

What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?

At Happiness Boxed, we take customer feedback very seriously. We usually buzz clients after the delivery on the service and whether they liked the end product or not. We take negative feedback quite seriously and make sure that it’s not repeated again. For Customer Expansion, we have a policy wherein a card is sent out to customers to post on social media with @happinessbxed and avail 10-15% discount on their next purchase.

This doesn’t limit customers to be one-time and as we offer a variety of products, customers end up buying from us plus with social media reach: their friends and family follow us and the cycle continues. This is an organic way of marketing rather than continuous paid promotions on social media platforms.
