The digital world has transformed the travel industry. Travelers, the world over are no longer passive consumers but extremely well informed and active on a range of social media platforms.
Increasingly the travel and leisure industry are able to track customer choices and preferences in order to deliver experiences tailored to each customer’s tastes.
Founded by Pranjal Prashar, RepUp empowers the industry with intuitive decision making tools that enables them to provide customized services to their guests along with analytics that allows those in travel to stay ahead of their competitors. We chat with Pranjal about the venture. An excerpt from the interview.
- What made you start your venture?
Opportunity. We worked with the hospitality industry for about three years before venturing into the online business management field. We studied the market from close quarters and understood the pain points of hoteliers across the country. Back at the time we decided to establish RepUp, there was hardly anyone offering online business management services to the hotel industry. We took it upon ourselves to arm the hoteliers with the best tools and services to cope with the growing need for online reputation and business management.
- What has been the key to your business’s success?
Constant innovation. Understanding customers’ pain points and designing our solutions accordingly. Utilizing technology to drive better results.
- What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them?
Integration of our products with existing vendors working for the hoteliers. Most of existing software providers are reluctant to open their system for integration with new applications. We had to figure out a technical workaround in order to get our solutions implemented.
- Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business?
Yes. I am fortunate to have the counsel and guidance of some of the best industry mentors, in particular Mr. Sanjay Mehta, our lead investor, who has been instrumental in our growth journey so far. I am very thankful to Mr. Pallav Sinha, founder & CEO MeraJob India, for his inputs, insights and constant support from the very early stage.
- Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations?
I find Trello very helpful in managing day-to-day deliverables on team levels. It’s easy to keep track of every aspect of a given deliverable. QuickBooks is a tool that I find immensely helpful in taking care of all of RepUp’s accounting needs. Migrating from Tally to Quickbook has helped us see a clearer picture of books.
- What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?
At RepUp we keep customers satisfied by delivering quick, measurable results. We keep track of customer engagement level and plan training and webinars to improve results. We also provide a dedicated account manager to help customers use the platform in best manner. For expansion, we do an in-depth study of a particular category of hotels. I remember visiting almost every hotel in Mahipalpur, Delhi, in order to understand the pain points and needs of small hotels. We then optimize our products according to the needs of this particular category. Next, we experiment with a sample of hotels belonging to the said category. Once we are able to demonstrate value with first few clients it is easier to replicate the same with others.
- What, according to you, are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
In-depth Market Knowledge – Once you know your market inside-out, you can position your product with a far greater chance of success. An Eye For Technology – Implementation of the most suited technology for different business needs is a must for success. Commitment – Ebbs and flows, ups and downs – they are a part of your business. What keeps you afloat and still challenging the next barrier is the commitment towards your product, towards your clients and towards your team!
