Sangopan is a unique entrepreneurial venture, which pioneered a business model for its post- natal massage services when it started operations in 2011 February. Founded and managed by Tejashree Joshi, Sangopan has served over 1000 infants and mothers in last 5 years that it has been in business. We chat with Tejashree about the venture. An excerpt from the interview:
- What made you start your venture?
It was a fortuitous combination of serendipity, passion for healthcare, and my commitment to maternal health and women empowerment. I have always believed strongly in benefits of post-natal massage for mother and infants, and when I saw the gap in the need and availability of reliable service providers in this area, I decided to step into this.
- What has been the key to your business’s success?
A strong commitment to well-being of my customers – the mothers and infants, and towards the welfare of my employees who are the pillars of our company.
- What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them?
Managing an all women workforce from lower income groups to fulfil the needs of mothers in the high anxiety period of early motherhood is a delicate task. One has to ensure reliable services on a daily basis and balance expectations of both sides without compromising on quality.
- Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business?
My husband is a strong pillar who I can rely on when I need an advice. We also have our board of advisors who are reputed medical professionals with proven expertise and experience in their area.
- Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations?
We are using technologies in area of marketing and sales. As we scale our operations, we will deploy appropriate technologies in area of Analytics, CRM and Accounting to make our operations more efficient.
- What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?
We have regular checks and follow-ups with our customers and maintain high quality of employee training and engagement which helps in customer satisfaction. Post-natal massage for mother and baby is a highly skilled job which requires extensive training and continuous feedback.
In a high anxiety period like early stages of motherhood, our board of advisors allows us to help customers with advice on questions/areas specific to each customer. We are focussing on expanding to different cities in India and have a deliberate and calibrated expansion strategy for different regions. We are also adding different products and services to our portfolio, all focussed on needs of mothers and infants in the early stages of motherhood.
- What, according to you, are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
The top 3 skills based on my personal experience are Execution, Communication, and Leadership. These greatly help in building and running an entrepreneurial venture. You of course, need a foundation of integrity, commitment to customers and employees, humility and willingness and ability to learn every day, including from your failures. I am a woman and a mother first before I am an entrepreneur.
When I listen to my employees and my customers, my success as entrepreneur is more because I never let the entrepreneur overshadow the mother and woman inside me. Visit their Website: http://www.sangopan.com/ Like them on Facebook: Sangopan
