Weddings come and go but their images live on forever. All the more reason why your wedding album should be a happy keep sake you turn to time and again, not something you bury in a dark closet. This belief is what powers the work of StudioRED, an artistic photography studio that specializes in weddings.

Led by founder Vaishali Dubey, StudioRED’s team of artistic wedding photographers, designers and techies is on a mission to completely change the look of wedding photography in India. If Dubey and her team have their way, there are a few things that will soon be phased out of wedding albums. These include pasted smiles, tacky settings and canned shots of the couple flanked by a large group of relatives.

In its place, the team aims to create a look that is ‘classy, modern and super cool’. The way Dubey describes it, having a camera pointed in your direction doesn’t mean you have to drop everything else in order to smile at it. “The best moments in a wedding”, she says, “are captured naturally when everybody is at ease – it’s really that simple. Smiles, tears, hugs, stolen glances and joyful ambience; all the cherished moments that make your wedding memorable and fun – we make sure that we don’t miss any of it.”

What was the inspiration behind StudioRED – the business and the name?

Our name StudioRED was inspired by the boutique feel of a studio and the dominant color in Indian weddings, RED. It also jived with our youthful attitude of being bold and unconventional. The idea for the business stemmed from my experience at my own wedding. It was a dream wedding in many ways, but I felt let down by the poor photography and videography at the time. I almost wished that I could get married again – just for the photos! By starting StudioRED, I set out to do the next best thing – to give today’s brides the experience that I was looking for.

Can you describe your target segment?

StudioRED is meant for the Facebook generation and our products and services are designed keeping that in mind. The target group is made up of young couples who want to get away from the look of traditional wedding albums.

What sets your products and services apart? We offer an end-to-end experience which includes journalistic and art photography/videography, customized designer albums to suit every taste, modern video montages, online user interface with facebook integration and a dedicated customer support team. We have a network all across India, as well as in the US and UK. StudioRED photographers are handpicked skilled professionals determined to wow their clients. While some of them are winners of several photography awards, others have displayed their work at international exhibitions. We have provided the perfect photographic finish to many weddings, both within and outside India. Thailand, Khajuraho, Udaipur, Bali, New York and Dubai are just a few of these places.

What are the main factors in your success?

The biggest factor in our success is listening to our clients and customizing our services to their needs. Our photographers spend time understanding the requirements of couples and getting to know the dynamics of their families. Secondly, we focus on capturing emotions, not poses. Journalistic and candid photography is about shooting great moments without being intrusive.

To achieve that, StudioRED photographers lie down, hide behind flowers, climb balconies (safely!) and do whatever it takes to wow clients without being in their face all the time. One of the key factors driving our success is that we have an integrated team of photographers, videographers, designers, video editors and operations professionals who have an aligned vision. The current photography services market is highly fragmented and consequently disorganized.

Can you describe your growth strategy and the barriers in the way?

Our strategy is simple – continue to exceed our clients’ expectations. Let our work speak for itself and we will grow. From a target demographic standpoint, we are focused on customers who value and are willing to pay for quality and art. Couples who are about to get married sometimes find it challenging to “sell” the StudioRED concept to their parents who usually foot the bill in Indian weddings.
