Your business’s logo is probably the first thing that a prospective customer notices. And whether the prospective customer translates into a real customer, the logo may stay in his memory, thereby forming a deep association with your brand. The right logo then becomes imperative, no matter whether your business is small or large. First decide on the type of logo you may want for your business. Choose from a wide array of options such as logos that are abstract, descriptive, illustrative, typographic, letterform, wordmark or emblematic. You are the best judge on the type of logo you want your brand to wear, the type that will clearly demarcate us from the crowd. Hence, spend some time to design and redesign just the right one for your business. This is, however, easier said than done. We therefore give you the basic guideline to draw up and finalise on your logo. Follow this ‘pattern’ and you will not go wrong: • Your logo has to be a mirror image of your business’s name. This means that you should be careful that they sync and that there is no disconnect between the two • It should reflect your business’s ethos, culture and target audience. Hence, if yours is a brand that caters to baby products, having a baby in your logo will automatically carry the word • Do you want a crisp phrase to accompany your logo? Well then, think of 2-3 words (and not more) that helps identify your brand • Use an authentic and unique design. Do not go about trying to ape others in the same space. You will simply end up confusing your internal and external stakeholders • Ensure that you logo looks neat. It should look good on your business card, Facebook ads or even billboards. It should be easily recognizable and easy to reproduce in different mediums, be it print or online media • Use good colours. Avoid the jazzy ones unless yours is in the funky line of business such a funky clothing/accessories or the latest pub/discothèque in the neighbourhood • Finally, let not ‘this is the trend’ phrase rule you. Apply your own heart and mind to your logo creation, for it will be associated with you and your business Should you have the money/budget to spare, get a graphics designer to design your logo. Remember, this will last your lifetime, well at least the business’s. Hence, it is prudent to spend some money and get a professionally done-up logo.
