Is anyone having trouble linking their BankFirst account to QB?

My BankFirst account was linked and working fine - up until two weeks ago. Now I am getting an error 101 "Something isn't Working".   QB can't seem to find the answer - nor can my bank

Is anyone having trouble linking their BankFirst account to QB?

Hello @Smithy27.  I understand how frustrating it can be when your BankFirst account isn't working properly in QuickBooks Online. It's never easy when something that used to work smoothly suddenly causes delays in your business-related activities, especially when it comes to banking. No worries, I'm here to help you through this and provide some guidance on resolving the error you're encountering.

The error code 101 typically indicates a few possible reasons for the issue you're facing. Let's explore them together:

  1. Browser-related or cached files: Sometimes, the problem can be caused by your current browser or too many cached files. To address this, we can try logging into your bank's website using a new tab or a different browser. This will help us determine if the error persists or if it's specific to your current browser. Here's a list of supported browsers:
    Google Chrome
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Safari 11 or newer
  2. Inactive account status: Another possibility is that your BankFirst account may be inactive. An account is considered active if there's an existing balance or if there have been transactions within the past 12 months. If you believe your account should be active but you're still unable to log in to your bank's website, I recommend reaching out to your bank directly for further assistance.
  3. Unattended prompt messages: It's also worth checking if there are any prompt messages on your bank's website that require your attention. These messages could include terms and conditions or other important notifications. Make sure to acknowledge any prompts, then go back and refresh your account in QuickBooks Online to see if the error persists.

Additionally, I've included these helpful resources that'll help you manage your bank transactions such as categorising them, ensuring that everything is organised appropriately, and learning what to do if your bank can't connect and you need to continue your banking responsibilities still:

Remember, you're not alone in this. Many others may be facing similar challenges, and support teams are here to help. If you need any further assistance or have any additional questions about banking errors in QuickBooks Online, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to support you and ensure that we find a resolution to any of your QuickBooks problems. Have a great day ahead.

I tried all the servers recommended and still getting the error.

I am wondering if it is something to do with the fact you have my bank listed as Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank whereas the correct name is Bankfirst?

Hi Smithy27,

Thanks for getting back to us. Have you tried connecting the bank using Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank name and link? As per checking a few customer tickets about BankFirst our banking team had identified the issue is on the financial institutions side. They have contacted the bank to help resolve the issue and is waiting for an update from the financial institution.

I would recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. That way, they can further check your account with our banking team and add your QuickBooks file to the affected company using BankFirst.

In the meantime, you can manually upload your bank transactions using a CSV file upload to be updated in your books: Manually upload your transactions, receipts, and bills into QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to post your concerns in the Community or click the Reply button for follow-up questions about connecting your bank. We'll be happy to help. Have a good day!

Yes. I am having problems too. I'm not a bookkeeper and don't have time to fiddle around with csv files. BankFirst said that they updated their system after the attempted hack and that is why the bank feeds no longer work. Apparently QB can tweak their back-end to fix it, but still haven't. It seems to be a common problem with a few banks too. It's not good enough! I need it to work and am considering changing my accounting system to one that will work.

I have contacted the bank and they said that QB need to tweak their back-end to make it work. This is extremely frustrating. I work full time as a teacher. I don't have time for this!!! My husbands books are now over a month out of date and I can't seem to do anything about it. I desperately need help please.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Elys. I can see that things have been challenging for you with linking BankFirst formerly known as Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank. Let me share information about the connection update of the said bank to QuickBooks.

We are aware that there has been an issue with connecting the mentioned bank above with QuickBooks, resulting in the bank feed transactions not downloading automatically into QBO. Please know Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank is no longer supporting standard bank feed connections.

For now, you only have the option to manually upload your entries into QBO using .CSV file so your bank transactions are imported into our program. If you wish to proceed with the process, I suggest disconnecting your account from QuickBooks and accepting any transactions that are still in the For Review tab to help ensure you don’t lose any transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Bookkeeping menu and select Transactions. Then, choose Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the pencil icon on the bank you wish to disconnect, then select Edit account info.
  3. Tick the box labeled Disconnect this account on the save.
  4. Click Save and Close.

Once done, you can now start importing your entries. You can open this article to see how to perform the process: Manually upload your transactions, receipts, and bills into QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, you may refer to this article if you need help in reconciling your accounts to avoid any discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to post again if you have additional queries about managing bank data in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help, Elys.
