PayPal linking error - "Something unexpected happened"

I have two PayPal accounts that I need linked with my QBO plan. One of them connects successfully, while the other one does not.

While going through the "Link Account" steps, I can input my credentials and it appears to be working. It finds my PayPal account's balance and prompts to start retrieving previous transaction records.
After a moment of attempting to retrieve transactions, it encounters an error and displays the message "Something unexpected happened" and asks me to sign in to the paypal account again. It does not work.

When I return to my transactions dashboard in QBO, the PayPal account is listed, but with the exclamation point icon to indicate an error.

It simply says "Something isn't working", with the button to report the issues. Once reported it says to check back in a few hours.
Well, I've been doing this for 2 weeks now as I decide whether I to continue using QBO or try something else. I have tried it from a private-browsing window, as well as following the same steps on two different computers.

Is there a known issue with linking paypal accounts? Or linking multiple paypal accounts? Both of my accounts are Australian-based and are business accounts. There shouldn't be any technical difference between them, apart from the fact the successful account currently has no transactions in it (it's a new account for a new business), while the account that fails to sync DOES have transactions in it.

I also have 2 CBA accounts successfully sync'd.

PayPal linking error - "Something unexpected happened"

Hi Jdiggity1,

Thanks for reaching out to us. The error message you're getting on your connected PayPal account in QuickBooks Online might indicate that there are transactions for multiple currencies being detected. Just a heads up, multicurrency bank feeds is not supported yet by our bank feed system. I would recommend reaching out to our Customer Support Team so they can take a closer look at the bank feed in question and get it back up and running for you.

Here's how to contact us;

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company via browser.
  2. Choose Help (?).
  3. From QB Assistant, enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions.
  4. Select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
  5. Choose how you want to connect with us: chat or phone.

Feel free to post again if you have any other questions, we're here to help.

PayPal linking error - "Something unexpected happened"

This did indeed seem like an issue with importing transactions from multiple currencies. I was able to complete the bank connection process by only importing transactions from the last day (of which there weren't any).

I then edited and imported a CSV file with all transactions converted to a single currency.

Feels a bit weird when one of the selling points for this plan tier was "Multi-currency".

I'll have to see if this is something I can continue to work with.
