Can't see my Jan-2020 IAS in the "To Do" section of the GST Tab - is it possibly because I haven't finalised my Dec-2019 Qtr BAS yet which isn't due until the 28/02/2020?

Glad to see you here, @kwylie2005,

You're right. You must lodge the Dec-2019 BAS first. Only then the GST centre will show the Prepare IAS for that month.

Refer to the steps below to lodge your BAS in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to the GST tab and select Prepare BAS.
  2. Finalise your GST obligations by reviewing the total sales (including GST), total purchases, GST collected on sales, and GST paid on purchases.
  3. Click on Next then add or review the Income Tax instalment amount.
  4. If the instalment amount needs to be updated, tick I need to adjust the instalment amount and adjust it accordingly.
  5. Press Next again then hit Mark as lodged to close the tax period in QuickBooks.

For more information about this process, refer to the following article: Lodging BAS and IAS.

Feel free to mention me if you have any questions about this topic or need anything else in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Have a fantastic day!

This then forces you to submit the BAS first when it isnt due yet. There should be a function to see more than one, this is poor functionality and very limiting.

Hi exgrim,

Selecting 'Mark as Lodged' simply closes off the tax period in QuickBooks, it does not lodge with the ATO unless you select the option 'Lodge with ATO'; you don't need to submit your BAS /IAS until you are ready to do so. In addition, if a BAS isn't actually due yet you would not have the option to 'Lodge with ATO' and can only mark it as lodged. Alternatively, you can also review your books for future periods not yet marked as lodged in the GST centre by running reports such as:

  • GST Summary
  • GST Detail
  • Transaction Detail by Tax Code
  • PAYG Withholding

You can run these reports to your preferred date range to review your figures as needed.
