Troubleshoot unknown bank and transaction errors

SOLVEDby QuickBooks12Updated January 22, 2024

Not sure of what exactly is going wrong with your bank connection? This page will take you through some troubleshooting steps for the following common occurrences:

Before you start

If you’re seeing a specific error message when trying to manually upload your transactions, or a specific error code (the number in brackets) on your bank feed, we've got the steps to fix your specific bank error here.

Transactions not updating

Check the Status column against your financial institution to review whether or not there's a known error associated with your account.

Some financial institutions might choose to no longer support bank feeds. You can find an up-to-date list of those institutions as well as steps on moving forward here.

For most banks, QuickBooks downloads the latest available transactions every night around 10 PM. Some may take a little longer. If downloads seem stuck, refresh your feed to download new transactions:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select Refresh.

This updates all your connected bank and credit card accounts. The number of transactions in each account tile will increase if QuickBooks downloads new transactions.

Important to note: If you see a message about additional authentication, follow the on-screen steps to continue the update. Not all banks require this, but some do for added peace of mind.

If downloads seem slow or stuck, the issue may be on the bank’s end. Sign in to your bank’s website to check.

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select Link account. Note: You won’t add an account, you just need the listed URL.
  3. Search for your bank and select it.
  4. Copy the URL listed for your bank.
  5. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website using the copied URL.
  1. Check your account for messages, notifications, or alerts.
  2. Look for any display issues as you navigate the website. These can block QuickBooks from downloading new transactions.
  3. Check your bank’s website for any announcements about new security requirements.
  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select Refresh.

Did you recently update anything on your bank’s website, like your account number, username or password? If so, update that info in QuickBooks as well:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select the tile for the bank account. Then select the Edit ✎ icon.
  3. Select Edit sign-in info.
  4. Update your info as needed.

Duplicate or missing transactions

Resolve these minor discrepancies by following these step-by-step guides:

Reconciliation Issues

Whether you’re having trouble reviewing your beginning balance, or struggling to match your account statement at the end of a reconciliation, we’ve got you covered!

Merged financial institutions

If your bank merged with another bank, it's likely that you'll have to change the way you access your accounts online. In addition, you may receive error codes, such as 102 or 108, regarding connecting to your bank accounts.

If this happens, take these steps to resolve the errors

  1. Contact the new bank (the one currently holding your account) and verify how to access your online accounts. The new bank should give you a new URL and login information for their online banking website.
  2. Go online and make sure you can access your accounts from the new site using the new credentials you were given. If not, contact the bank for assistance.
  3. In QuickBooks Online, disconnect the old account and reconnect using your new credentials.
