Download American Express Delegate accounts in QuickBooks Desktop

by Intuit Updated 6 months ago

Learn how to download transactions for American Express Delegate accounts.

What are Delegate accounts?

Delegate accounts are credit cards with a primary account and multiple secondary accounts. Each card has a different number, but there is only one statement provided for all transactions made on the primary and secondary accounts combined.

How do I download delegate acounts in QuickBooks?

Delegate accounts are setup the same as non-delegate accounts. Here are the steps to set them up:

With recent upgrades in security and data connections with American Express and QuickBooks, limitations on data access have been tightened. Customers can only download a card with their name on it.

If your card, with your name, is listed under your profile at American Express websites, you’ll be able to download it into QuickBooks.

If a card doesn’t have your name on it, or isn’t under your American Express profile, you won’t be able to download it.

American Express Delegate card administrators can download the primary card account, which includes all transactions and balances for cards under that profile, as a single account in Intuit products. However, the administrator can’t download the secondary cards one-by-one. Setting up both the primary card account and the secondary cardholder accounts in QuickBooks would result in duplicate transactions being brought in.
