Match your bank and credit card transactions

Learn how to match your bank and credit card transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Find match suggestions, unmatch, review, or undo transactions faster in QuickBooks Online. These new features help you keep your records accurate and updated. Here’s how.

You can match any suggested transactions with the same amount and date range. This matches all transactions within the range of 90 calendar days before and 20 calendar days after.

  1. Follow this link to complete the steps in product. Open this link in a new window
    Tip: You can select or enter specific dates and descriptions to filter all transactions.
  2. In the Match/Categorise column, find a suggested match. Then, select the transaction or select the sparkleA green sign with a black arrow pointing to the right. icon to expand the table row.
  3. Review the transactions from the Match suggestion column, then select it to get more info.
  4. Select Post once you verify the match.
    Note: If the match suggestion isn’t correct, you can select Find other match or Match to look for other transactions.

Verify the reason you don’t see match suggestions

You won’t see any match suggestion if:

  • The amount differs due to fees or discounts.
  • You need to match multiple payments deposited as a group.
  • The record’s happened more than 90 calendar days before, or 20 calendar days after the transaction date.
  • The record has been reconciled. If that happens, you should exclude it since it can't be matched.

Find and match your bank transfers by amount and date. Here’s how.

  1. Follow this link to complete the steps in product. Open this link in a new window
  2. In the Match/Categorise column, find a suggested match. Then, select the transaction or select the sparkleA green sign with a black arrow pointing to the right. icon to expand the table row.
  3. Select a category from the Select category dropdown ▼ under the column Match/Categorise.
    Note: You can also select + Add new account or Select customer (optional) if you need to.
  4. Select Post once you verify the match.

Review or undo matches

Once you post your transactions with existing records, you can review it and undo the match if needed.

  1. From Bank transactions, select the Posted tab. (Take me there).
  2. Select the account you want to review.
  3. From the Action column, select Undo if you need to make changes. You’ll see the transaction in the Pending tab.

Tip: Make all necessary changes before your monthly reconciliations.
