Download and use the QuickBooks Online desktop app

Learn how to access and manage your company files on your computer using the QuickBooks Online app.

Once you have access to QuickBooks Online, you’ll be able to:

Stay signed in: The app lets you stay signed in for up to 6 months, so you don’t have to enter your username and password every time.
Note: You can stay signed in unless you manually sign out.
Access multiple companies: Manage multiple companies by using separate tabs for each, all in one place. You can even open multiple pages within each company tab.
Work on two tasks at a time: Improve your productivity by using split-screen to manage two tasks at once with the app on your computer.
Use keyboard shortcut: Effortlessly speed up your workflows and simplify your tasks by reducing the need for manual work.

Step 1: Download and open the app on your computer

Sign in with your Intuit user ID and password.
If you have multiple QuickBooks Online companies, select the company you want to open.

You can view multiple companies and pages at once in the app.

Each company has its own tab group in the app, to open an additional company:
1. Select the + icon next to the current company tab group.
2. Select the company you want from the list.
To open an additional page in the same company:
1. Select the + icon next to the current page tab.
To work on two tasks simultaneously:
1. Select the ellipsesicon, then select Split screen .
  Note: If this is your first time using the app, you might see a pop-up. Select the option to continue with the next steps if needed.
2. Select the second task you want to work on. The screen you’ve selected is outlined in a green border.

If you encounter any problems with the app, close and reopen it. You can also uninstall and re-install it, or contact us for help.

You should now be able to use QuickBooks Online for enhanced multitasking and browsing.
