I'm looking at setting up recurring transactions, but I'd like to know if it collects payment like a direct debit, or just send the invoice to the customer?

I currently use ThriveCart for direct debit purposes, but I'm wanting to know if there's a way I can keep it in QBO, and potentially avoid processing fees by debiting it from a bank account rather than a card.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @kirsten-kpvirtua. We are thrilled to receive your first post here and would love to address your concern about receiving direct debit payments for your recurring invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, it can. QBO allows you to receive payments when sending recurring invoices to your customers. I understand that you may want to avoid processing fees. However, we're unable to determine if you can keep utilizing ThriveCart to receive direct debit payments. That said, I recommend reaching out to their customer service team to verify if they allow integration to QBO.

For now, you may be interested in setting up Accept Card Payments with the PayPal app in your QBO to process credit and debit card payments seamlessly. For more in-depth information, please refer here: Accept Card Payments with PayPal app FAQ.

Additionally, if you need to return a customer's money due to overpayment, don't worry. I've got a reference that will guide you in recording them based on different scenarios: Handle customer refunds in QuickBooks Online.

Please know that you can always rely on us whenever you need further assistance receiving invoice payments in QBO. Just leave a reply below, and we'll chime in promptly to answer your questions. Stay safe and have a wonderful day ahead!

Thanks so much for your help!
Is there a way for the autopay to take funds straight from the clients bank account, or do I need to turn on CC and/or PayPal?

Hi kirsten-kpvirtua,

You'll have to set up and enable the Accept Card Payments with PayPal app. When your customer make a payment to the invoice, payment is automatically created in QuickBooks Online and linked to the invoice.

For reference you can check out this link about: Accept Card Payments with PayPal app FAQ to learn more about the process.
