<invoiceno> field in custom form template fails to map to the Invoice No field. Cannot save and use a Custom template.

Hi there, garry-jowett.

I can share what you need to do when saving the map fails. The <invoiceno> is the correct map field and it's part of the common scalar fields on the form.

You can create a new template and make sure to follow the EZ map fields. Please download the entire QuickBooks Online EZ Map Fields Catalogue to help you check the code. And, If you want to start fresh, use our samples.

If the template still fails to save, I recommend chatting our QuickBooks Online Live Team. They can check again your template and provide additional information to make it work.

I'm adding these articles to help you design custom form styles in QuickBooks.

Thanks for the assistance however QBs EZ guide conflicts with the actual QB sample templates provided.

  • In the EZ guide the field instruction is <invoiceno>
  • In the sample template the Invoice No field is set as <refnumber>

That's a set of support docs right there that are guaranteed to cause confusion and issues!

I tried both fields and it is <refnumber> that is accepted when I load the template however it still fails.

On upload I get "Your template was perfect" ..... but it does not preview for confirmation that the design is in order.  See image attached.

Assuming things are "perfect" as advised I save the template when I attempt to view the PDF Custom form it fails to load.

So, it is not quite perfect.

Hi garry-jowett,

Hope you're doing well! Having different field terms can indeed create confusion. Thank you for bringing this up.

I'm going to let you contact our QBO Support, so they can gather more data to investigate this issue. In this way, they can also check why your uploaded template cannot load. They'll be available on Monday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM GMT+8.

  1. Go to Help and select the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Write a sentence or paragraph to describe the issue and click Continue.
  4. Choose Start a chat.

Please don't hesitate to go back to this thread if you have any other concerns about invoicing in QBO. Take care!
