I can help you determine why you'll receive a message stating it say paid straight away every time you create a new invoice.
QuickBooks Online offers automation features, such as automatically applying payments to an invoice, which can be turned off.
To resolve this issue, you'll need to turn off the Automatically apply credits option and then, unlink the automatically paid invoice to the payment.

Once done, please follow the steps below on how to unlink the invoice and the payment.
