Editing Bill Payment Reference Number

I'm using QB Online and when I do a bill payment, cheque or expense, it shows "To Print" in the Reference Number field and will not allow me to change this.  How do I make this field editable?

Thank you for your suggestions.  The issue has resolved itself so must have just been a glitch that resolved itself after a few days.

Here is a screenshot from the pay bills screen.  It has the same reference if I use the Cheque activity.

It could be that your Custom transaction number is turned off, Mia Cranes.

 

Let's turn this feature on so you can modify and use your own numbering preference.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, and select Account and Settings.
  2. Click Sales tab.
  3. Then click anywhere within the Sales form content.
  4. Check the box next to Custom transaction numbers.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Done.

You'll be able to customize the number to whatever you prefer after performing the steps.

Thank you.  I checked this setting and it was already on.  I turned it off, saved settings, turned it on again and saved settings but I'm still having the same issue.
