Hi, I would like to run a report that compares the profit and loss between 2 accounts: an income account (sales) and a cost of sales account. How do I do that? Thanks!

Welcome to the Community forum, angela104.

Currently, the option to run a report to compare the profit and loss between 2 accounts is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can run separate Profit and Loss reports for the accounts and then manually compare them. I'll be here to guide you through the process.

First, run separate Profit and Loss reports for both accounts. Here's how to do this:

  1. On the left navigation panel, go to Reports.
  2. Find the Profit and Loss report. You can also use the search bar.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. On the Filter section, open the Distribution Account dropdown menu.
  5. Tick one account that you wish to compare.
  6. Press Run report.
  7. Export the report using the export icon.

Then, follow the steps above to run another Profit and Loss report for the other account. Once done, you can manually compare the reports.

You may also want to save a report's customization settings. Here's a guide on how to do that: Memorise reports.
