Why do I have a credit card negative balance of $52k on my balance sheet whenI pay off my credit card each month?

Hi info938,

There are a number of possible reasons why your credit card balance would be displaying differently in QuickBooks Online. If the account type of the credit card is set up incorrectly in the Chart of Accounts, this may lead to payments reducing the balance instead of increasing it. When you try to reconcile the account and tick the transactions in a reconciliation period, does the amount of difference increase or decrease when you mark off the payments? If it is increasing, then the account type might be set to Cash and Cash Equivalents instead of a Credit Card type account.

If the account type is set incorrectly and needs to be changed, you can use the following steps:

  1. Select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate your Credit Card account in the list of accounts.
  3. From the Action column drop-down menu, select Edit.
  4. In the Account Type drop-down, select the Credit card option.
  5. Click Save

If the account is still displaying an incorrect balance, you would be best to reach out to our support team so that they can assist you further. You can give us a call on 1800 046 038 to troubleshoot this with you, or if you would rather get a call-back from a representative or talk to us via Messaging, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?) at the top right.
  3. Select Contact us.
  4. Enter a brief description of the issue, then select Next.
  5. Select Start a Chat or Get a Callback to connect to a live support team representative.
