Category PO vs Item PO's - Can I order in Category and add to inventory later?

I have a small Clothing Store. When we order a pack of clothes from a supplier they have an SKU for a pack.  Its not the SKU we assign to keep track of the items on the website. Can I order using Category and then split to inventory items later?

If so... please some insight how?

Or do I order using category and then edit the PO and add the items copy to bill and complete?

Category PO vs Item PO's - Can I order in Category and add to inventory later?

Let's make sure you'll be able to order using the category and add the items, later on, LackMacM.

Normally, you'll have to enter the complete information of your product so you can perfectly track your inventory. This gives you more detailed financial reports and helps you complete transactions faster. If you want to order by category, then you can either add the SKU of the item on the bill or make an inventory adjustment. To add the SKU, you can simply edit the bill. For inventory adjustment, you can follow the detailed steps below.

  1. Click + New.
  2. Select Inventory Qty Adjustment.
  3. Enter the Adjustment Date.
  4. In the Inventory adjustment account drop-down, select the appropriate account.
  5. Select the products in the Product field. Note: The description and current quantity on hand auto-populate.
  6. For each item, enter either a new quantity or a change in quantity.
  7. In the Memo field, enter the details about the adjustment.
  8. Click Save and close.

Once you save the inventory adjustment, QuickBooks Online automatically records appropriate adjustments to your stock Asset and Cost of Goods Sold (under stock Shrinkage) accounts. Additionally, you can now start processing your bills. For more information about managing Accounts Payable transactions, see this article: Enter and pay bills.
