My client does not want the email sent by QB when I hit SEND. Too many steps required for them to get to PDF. They want me to email a ready to print PDF invoice. But I can't create and save an invoice without clicking on SEND at the end.... which then sends the unwanted email from QB to my client.
I've got some steps to resolve this concern, Louisinteriors.
Creating an Invoice in QBSE requires an Email Address. In your case, I'd suggest using your email in creating an Invoice. This way, you can download the ready-to-print Invoice and sent it to your client.

Thanks. Yes I thought of that too but unfortunately my email address is then printed below the name and address of my client on the "BILL TO" side of the invoice as if that is their email address. This then looks like I made an error with their details on the invoice.
I like the way the RECEIPT processing works where QB asks whether to "email" a receipt or "Skip". It'll be nice if invoicing had the same option.
I'll personally send this product suggestion to our development team, Louisinteriors.
You can also fill in your client's information so it'll show up on the BILL TO field. Instead of clicking Send invoice, choose Save as draft. On the list of Invoices page, click the drop-down arrow beside Send invoice, then select Export as PDF. After that, Send the saved PDF file to your customer.
Reach out to me if you need further help. Have a good one!
I have the same issue. The suggestion you make does work but then leaves the invoice in draft status, which then doesn’t show up properly elsewhere as sent and awaiting payment.
Really needs an option to be able to save without sending.
Thank you for joining this thread, Simon Wrigley.
I've got the workaround so you can save the invoice.
The option to save the invoice without sending it to your customer is currently available in the QBSE US version.
What you need to do is send the invoice to your email. This way, it won't remain as draft in your account. Once done, make sure to enter the original email of your customer to avoid confusion moving forward.
Feel free to read through this article: Create an invoice in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It provides instructions and detailed steps for your guidance.
I also suggest going to your Labs to see latest news and updates of QBSE. Simply click the Gear icon, then select Labs under About you.

I also have the need to send a pdf version of my invoice. This just does not seem like a really hard problem to resolve....
Hello, @Kevin DeRita.
I appreciate you explaining how it would help you out. While the ability to send the invoice as a PDF attachment isn’t currently in our development roadmap, we are working on big improvements that will be helpful for the majority of our customers, and you’ll see those rolling out soon.
You can save the invoice as draft and export it as a PDF file.
Once completed, you can send the invoice as a PDF attachment to your customer using your email address outside QuickBooks.
Let me know if you have other questions. I'm just a few clicks away.
Quickbooks was noticed that this was an issue 5 months ago. and you still have not made ANY attempt to address the problem? What exactly are you waiting on?? You do know that PDF exists right?
Hey there, @Kevin DeRita.
As mentioned by my colleague, the option to send invoices via PDF is unavailable at this time. Every business has a different structure and needs, so I know how beneficial sending invoices via PDF is.
We take customer’s suggestions as an opportunity to guide us on which area of the product we need to improve on. On your behalf, I’m passing this one on my end for consideration in future enhancements.
You can also visit the QBO Blog and register to our Newsletter to receive email updates about the product and the latest applications added in QBO.

I have this issue too. Most of my customers have expressed annoyance at this, many have said they cannot download the invoices. It is not obvious for many people how to do it. I want to be able to send a PDF invoice from my phone instead of waiting to get home and doing it on a laptop They have all have asked for a PDF to be emailed directly. This program is supposed to save me time and is creating additional workload. Often the difference is between being paid immediately and having to wait weeks. If this feature is not going to be made available I will have to look for a different product.
