sales receipts that money was not collected on and now needs to be written off

So I've started working at a place that has some sales receipts that should have been invoices because the money was never collected.  I would just void the sales receipts, but they happened 2 years ago.  What do I do so every time I reconcile I do not see them?  I want to write them off to bad debt and reconcile them somehow.

Any thoughts....

Hi sardub-

Because this would affect your books moving forward, we cannot recommend how to remove these sales receipts. We can however help you in providing the steps of how to accomplish what you want to move forward with.

To your initial suggestions; if you don't want to see them on your record, you could void and delete them; but yes you'll see them moving forward as you reconcile. In terms of using bad debts, this wouldn't work because the proposed receipts are considered income and bad debts only relate to expenses.

Would love to see the community make some suggestions as well. Post your thoughts and hopefully we can get some responses and pathways for you to find the best solution.

Can I deposit the sales receipts, then write a journal entry debiting bad debt and crediting checking account?
