Can anyone explain why my Sales Receipts display my CRA BN even though this feature is turned off? This appears to be a bug in the system and a breach of privacy.

Hello again tony91,

I hear what you're saying and I want to assure you that the privacy of and control over your personal information is of the utmost importance to us. When these kinds of things happen where a piece of private information is displaying to your customers when it shouldn't, we want to be sure to address it.

I appreciate you including the screenshots. Since the Community is a public forum and the images contain the personal information you're concerned about, I've removed the links from your post to protect your privacy.

One thing to keep in mind when you're working with custom form styles is that you'll want to edit all relevant forms. When you have multiple form styles that might be used for different purposes, editing each individually is key to having them only display the information you want. Follow the steps given in the original response to edit each template as necessary.

Next, it's important to note that what's identified in the custom form styles as the Customer Business Account Number is actually related to the sales tax number. You'll notice that on your sales receipt it says HST (BC) Registration No. before it displays the business number. With this in mind, it's in the sales tax setup that you can change or remove this number. Follow these steps.

  1. Select Taxes from the left menu.
  2. Choose Manage sales tax.
  3. Click Edit agency settings in the section for the appropriate tax agency.
  4. Change or remove the number in the sales tax number field.
  5. Click Save.

Depending on which you've chosen to do, the form should now display your sales tax registration number or no number at all. Give that a shot. This doesn't impact the business number entered in your company setup through the Account and settings section, so if you still want your number to display there, you'll be fine.

If you're still seeing the business number displayed on the forms to your customers after all of that, I recommend reaching out to support again. I know you've already spoken with a chat agent, but it's important to me that this is addressed and escalated to the appropriate team if necessary. Here are all of the options for getting in touch with support.

Phone and Chat: Click Contact Us to learn how to reach phone and chat support.

Schedule a Callback: click (?)Help in the upper right > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback (Note: Callback hours are the same as regular phone hours.)

Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET

I hope that helps!

Hi tony91,

I appreciate you reaching out. Your privacy is our number one priority and we strive to make sure nothing changes that. Don't worry, I'll be happy to give you a hand with this so you can get back to doing what you enjoy.

It's important to double-check that the feature is turned off and I recommend following the steps below to make sure:

  1. Click the Gear icon on the top menu.
  2. Choose Custom Form Styles.
  3. Click Edit on the Sales Receipt.
  4. Choose Content.
  5. Click the Header part on the sample invoice.
  6. Uncheck the Customer Business Account Number.
  7. Click Done.

Now that you've removed the feature, create a new sales receipt and see if the Business Number is still showing. Keep in mind that turning off this feature will apply to new sales receipts and not the existing ones. If you're still seeing the Business Number, I suggest clearing cache and cookies on your browser. Doing this helps fix most issues the site may be having. Here are the steps: Clear Cache and Cookies.

Give this a try and if you need further assistance, I recommend contacting our support team using this link.

Can anyone explain why my Sales Receipts display my CRA BN even though this feature is turned off? This appears to be a bug in the system and a breach of privacy.

I run a web design company so I generally don't find too many web problems that I can't solve but this one is very frustrating.
Here is the issue:
When I am editing the Sales Receipt template the BN never shows while I am editing.

But when go to test the Sales Receipt on a LIVE client the BN shows up every time:

I spent 2 hours in the online chat yesterday trying to fix this problem to know avail.
There is definitely some sort of BUG in the software because I can manipulate pretty much EVERY piece of information displayed on a Sales Receipt except this BN info.
For some reason the program seems intent on displaying this PRIVATE information on my public Sales Receipts. Very distressing!!!

Also, I did trying clearing the browser cache several times but the PDF produced by QB Online always contains my private BN every single time.
This is a huge privacy breach.
