How do I share with my accountant?

Hello Anthony!

Inviting your accountant to QuickBooks Self-Employed so that they can work with you on your books is a fantastic idea. This is a great way to ensure that what you've been entering is accurate and to your accountant's specifications. This is one of the awesome features that's available in QuickBooks Online. I'll go over this with you.

The option to connect with your accountant is not available in QuickBooks Self-Employed in Canada. You may have come across some resources that indicate that the option is available, but those are likely American resources that have crossed over into our Canadian Community. However, I do know how helpful this feature is and I want to make sure that you're still able to share your account information with your accountant.

Within QuickBooks Self-Employed you have the ability to share reports and other tax information with your accountant or bookkeeper. You'll just need to export the relevant reports and then send them via email. To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Reports menu.
  2. Locate the report you want to download and send to your accountant.
  3. Specify the time period or tax year from the dropdown.
  4. Select View or Download.
  5. Use the arrow icon, then click the option to Print or Download.

If inviting your accountant as a user to your QuickBooks subscription is essential for your business, it might be time to consider an upgrade to QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Online EasyStart, Essentials and Plus all allow up to 2 accountant users per subscription so you'd have no problem inviting them to work on your books. You have two options when it comes to moving from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online. I'll explain them both.

  • If you select the Gear icon and choose Billing info and see Explore QuickBooks Online plans, you can select it to start the upgrade from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online. With this option, you'll be able to select which data you want to bring over or if you want to start fresh.
  • If you don't see the option to Explore QuickBooks Online, you can still make the move by manually exporting and importing your data. Read more on how to do that in this article: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

If you'd like to have your voice heard about how important it is to invite your accountant to QuickBooks Self-Employed, I urge you to submit feedback. Navigate to the Assistant feature, then type and enter "Feedback". Follow the prompts to share your input. Our product development team goes through each and every one of these messages and uses them to prioritize which features and upgrades they'll make to our products next.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns! I'm here to help.
