I have 2 factor authentication and it is preventing my bank from staying connected, is there a way around it?

I have to login to QB all the time to update transactions for my bookkeeping team because Scotiabank requires 2FA to be turned on and it won't stay connected so I have connect it each time. It is very frustrating

Hello info1764,

Congrats on your first post in the Community. QuickBooks offers a powerful platform that simplifies the way you handle your transactions. I'll be happy to share more info and help steer you along the right path.

Since the Two-step verification is causing connection issues on your end, you have an option to turn it off if you'd like. Here's how:

1. Sign in to your by visiting accounts.intuit.com

2.Tap Sign In & Security from the left menu.

3. In the “Two-step verification” section, hit Turn off.

4. Enter the code. Select Continue.

However, if you'd like to keep the Two-step verification, I highly recommend getting in touch with our support team so they can help investigate and figure out why there's connectivity issues with your bank. Here's our contact details:

@JamesM4- Your solution does not help.  Your solution is for your QBO login and not error 185 when you update banking feed with banking 2FA.

@info1764 - Have you found a solution?  This is such a PITA isn't it?

Thanks for posting here about your concern, @123OMG.

I can share some steps on how to resolve bank error 185 in QuickBooks Online. To explain further, you'll get this error if your bank requires more information like additional security requirements.

To fix error 185, follow the instructions below:

  • Security questions: If your bank or FI asks you a security question, enter your answer. You may see this error again the next time you update if you have multiple security questions. As you enter your answers, QuickBooks Online remembers the security questions you have been asked and answers for you.
  • One-time password (OTP): If your bank or FI asks for an OTP, get your OTP (on a device, through text, call, etc.), and enter it each time you see Error 185.

If it doesn't self resolve the problem, toggle your login using the steps below:

  1. Open a private window.
  2. Go to the Banking menu then find the account that is not updating.
  3. Click on the pencil icon then select Edit sign-in info.
  4. Input your log in credentials, then click Update.

However, if the error still comes up, I recommend getting in touch with our Support Team. Only our live support can handle account-related concerns and bank escalations. This is to protect your account from fraudulent activities in this public page.

To get a hold of a representative, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Help menu then choose the Search tab.
  2. At the bottom click on Contact us.
  3. Enter the keyword Account Management and Billing in the What can we help you with? box.
  4. On the next screen, scroll down to How would you like to connect with us section.
  5. Choose Chat with us to initiate a discussion with a live agent.
  6. Enter you account contact information then press Get a chat.
  7. When using this option, make sure to enable pop-up windows. The chat box will appear at the bottom right section of your monitor, and an agent will be with you shortly after. See this:

Let me know if you still have any questions about this banking concern. I'll be more than glad to share additional insights and assistance whenever you need it.
