There is no 'Export to online' option in my version.
Secondly, is there a version of online for not for profits? We're a small group and the new subscription fees are not an insignificant expense for us.

Yes, MFS61, we can use the backup copy to migrate your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Please note that the Export Your Company File to QuickBooks Online function is available if you're using QuickBooks Pro/Premier. However, if you're using QuickBooks Enterprise, you can press Ctrl + 1 on your keyboard to open the Product Information window, then press Ctrl + B + Q. After that, select OK to display the Export window, and click Get Started.
Given that you're using QBDT 2021, we can perform the migration using your backup file through the web-based migration tool. To access this, select the link for your QuickBooks version, click Get Started, and sign in with your Intuit Account. Here are the links for your QuickBooks version:
