QuickBooks Online (QBO) has strict validation rules for sensitive tax identification numbers. Please double-check that there are no extra spaces or hyphens, as the system often prefers the digits alone. Even if the number looks correct, the software may be detecting hidden characters.
To ensure a clean entry, try entering the 9 digits as a single string (e.g., 123456789 instead of 123-456-789). Also, if you copied and pasted the number, you might have accidentally included a space at the beginning or end. Try deleting the entry entirely and typing it manually.
If you're 100% certain the digits are correct and the format is clean, the issue is likely a browser-related error.
Sometimes QBO gets stuck in a loop. If the number was typed the first time incorrectly, the browser may remember that error state even after you have corrected the digits. To resolve this issue, I recommend logging out of your account, refreshing your browser, and then logging back in.
If the issue persists, you can try accessing your account through a Private/Incognito window. This mode avoids storing internet data, which can help resolve temporary issues. You might also want to try a different compatible browser to ensure everything functions smoothly.
