Hi b8manpainting,
The mileage tracking feature is one of the great new things QuickBooks Online has added to the program this year. With it, you can track personal and business trips and log them in your account. I'll go over the options available in this feature at this time.
Using this feature, you can either manually enter or automatically track your trips through the mobile app to have them accounted for in your books. Currently, the mileage tracking system works by calculating the kilometers travelled for that trip, but doesn't give a kilometer reading like you might see on your car's dashboard. For instance, rather than entering the trip with information such as starting number is 100,000 km and the ending number is 100,050 km, the trip would instead read 50 km.
If you'd like to include the more specific details like that, I recommend using the Describe your trip field on the trip log, but generally speaking, it's not a requirement for the feature. You can learn more about how it works here: Track mileage in QuickBooks Online
I welcome you to submit feedback about what you're looking for here. Being so new, we're especially keen on learning the ways we can enhance what it does for users like you. Right now we even have a Share feedback button right on the Mileage page, but you can also submit feedback by following these steps: How do I submit feedback?
I hope that helps! I'm here should you need anything else.
It would be nice to have the option of:
a) Modifying the end of year date so that the user is not confined to a December 31 year-end
b) Recording the odometer reading at the beginning and end of the year. This is a required piece of information for vehicle expenses.
Hi bgrant5. Thanks for chiming in on this thread. Your feedback is valuable and I recommend sending it to our engineers. This article here shows you how to submit feedback and I suggest taking that route. I'm here in case you have other questions. Otherwise, I wish you a great rest of the week. :)
