Recent update in mid-June.

In mid-June there was a Quicbooks update. There was also a Windows 10 update about the same time. Since then my Quickbooks program opens nornally but when I try to open a data file the program shuts down. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions,  spent the better part of 2 day with Quickbooks tech support, spent a day with Windows tech support and sent my laptop to a computer technician who was unable to resolve the issue. The only way I can get it to work is to setup a new user that does have any connection to the original user as far as Office 365 and One Drive are concerned. Quickbooks works fine with this new user but then I am unable to open or use my other programs from this user. Very inconvenient. Anyone else having issues?

I've researched and looked in to this further for related issues and investigation, but there aren't any.

 

Since you're still having trouble opening your QuickBooks after performing some basic steps, I recommend doing a Clean Install. This will help replace the QuickBooks Desktop software on your computer and the files used to install it. Before performing some steps, please secure a backup copy of your company file first.

 

Here are the steps to uninstall QuickBooks:

  1. Open the Windows Start Menu. Search for “Control Panel” and open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. Select the version of QuickBooks Desktop you're having problems with from the list of installed programs.
  4. Select Uninstall/Change and follow the onscreen instructions. If you don’t see this option, sign out and sign back in to Windows as an admin (or a user with admin rights).

Then, download the QuickBooks Tools Hub and run the Clean Install tool from there.

I've done the clean install at least 3 times. I actually scrubbed the laptop and put it back to factory settings and started from scratch (all programs and data files were erased). Whatever the issue is it has happened on both my desktop and my laptop.

As I said, the programs loads properly but when I try to open a data file it starts to load but just when it's about to open the data file the program shuts down completely.

I also said that if I login to the computer under a different user the program loads and the data files load properly.

This is not convenient as I am constantly logging in and out of users.

I am curious with your case. Please create a new dummy file with 2 user profiles (one as an admin, and another as a user). Did you get the same issue?
