why are my accounts listed in alphabetic order in my trial balance, balance sheet and p&l and not displayed properly like the chart of accounts

The Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Profit and Loss reports cannot match the Chart of accounts displayed due to default settings, @ballmanagementgroup. Let me discuss this further below.

The Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Profit and Loss reports differ from the Chart of Accounts for the following reasons:

  1. Date Range: The Chart of Accounts shows running balances, while the Profit and Loss report reflects totals for a specific date range.
  2. Income and Expense Accounts: These accounts reset annually, transferring balances to Retained Earnings, which is why they don't appear in the Chart of Accounts.
  3. Report Purpose: Each report serves a different purpose; the Balance Sheet provides a snapshot of assets, liabilities, and equity, while the Profit and Loss report summarizes income and expenses over time.

However, you can submit Feedback to our Product Development team to consider your suggestion and potentially include this in future updates. We value customer feedback as it helps us enhance the various features of our products.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear option in the upper right tab.
  2. Choose the Feedback option under profile.
  3. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  4. Click the Send Feedback button.

You can view, print, or export reconciliation reports in QuickBooks Online so you have a record or backup of your data for future use.

You can utilize the comment section below if you have follow-up questions while working with your reports. We're always here to lend you a hand whenever you need it.
