Can’t deactivate Bank Feeds for an account

Find out what to do when you can’t deactivate your bank account’s online services in QuickBooks Desktop.

When you deactivate Bank Feeds for an account, the lightning bolt disappears beside the bank account’s name in the Chart of Accounts. If you can still see it, this means the Bank Feeds is still active for the account.

Follow these alternative steps so you can deactivate Bank Feeds for your account without any problems.

Solution 1: Re-sort lists

  1. Create a backup of your company file.
  2. Re-sort lists.
  3. If you still can’t deactivate bank feeds, verify and rebuild your data.

Solution 2: Merge the account with a new one

  1. Create a backup of your company file.
  2. Rename the original account.
    1. Go to the Lists menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
    2. Right-click on the account, then select Edit Account.
    3. Add an asterisk (*) to the end of the account name.
  3. Deactivate bank feeds for the account.
    1. While on the Edit Account window, go to the Bank Feed Settings tab.
    2. Select Deactivate All Online Services.
    3. Select Save & Close.
  4. Create a new account.
    1. Right-click on any account, then select New.
    2. Select Bank, then Continue.
    3. In the Account Name field, enter the original name.
    4. Complete the account information, then select Save & Close.
    5. When you’re prompted to set up bank feeds, select No.
  5. Merge the original and the new account.
    1. Right-click on the original account, then select Edit Account.
    2. Remove the asterisk (*) from the account name, then select Save & Close.
    3. Confirm that you want to merge the accounts.

The merged account’s bank feeds should now be deactivated. To make sure, there shouldn’t be a lightning bolt beside it.
